Alice (#10507)

Alice is a 5 year old spayed black female. She is up to date on her shots and is heartworm negative. She is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. She weighs 49 lbs. She is a very sweet girl. Alice is brand new to Lab Rescue. We'll tell you more about her as soon as we can.

Update from Alice's foster family 9/6/2010:

She is still very good when we leave her with a crate left open for lounging with toys, water, and a radio.    She is sometimes found in her crate and sometimes sleeping on the couch.  She and Boston play well together but sometimes gets a little rambunctious.  She has started to get interested in playing with toys, especially the squeaky toy.  Her skin is looking great.  She is starting to fill out a little more.  She was also very good for her bath.

Bandit (#9770)

Bandit is a 7 1/2 year old black neutered male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs. He weighs 68 lbs. He walks well on a lead. He tells you that he needs to go out by pressing his head into your lap. He has good house manners but food on lower surfaces can be too tempting for him. He's crate trained but doesn't really need it.

Update from Bandit's foster family 9/6/2010:

So, my ol' man Bandit is doing just fine here.  He's actually become more of a snuggler.  He's hopped up on the couch to curl up on my legs a few times.  He likes chilling in the backyard but prefers if I'm there with him.  He will hang out by himself or with my lab for a while.  He doesn't retrieve, but likes to play with a ball (or a big Jolly Ball) if it's bounced.  He doesn't like the pool, but allows me to wash him with the hose.  He's great on the leash and LOVES his walks.  It's so cute to see him with pep in his step when he's out for a walk.

Blitz (#10544)

Blitz is a 6 month old black neutered male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 30 lbs. He is a fun furball of excitement and play. Getting body rubs and lots of attention are just a couple of things that Blitz loves best. He also loves to play with other dogs. He knows how to retrieve a ball or squeaky toy and is very clever.

Update from Blitz's foster family 9/3/2010:

Blitz walks great on a leash. He gets along with all our dogs and has no problem with children. He is curious about our cat but no scuffles; it's just interest. We've taken him to the dog park and he does great!  Everyone there thinks he is adorable which is true. He is extremely handsome.

He's got great house manners. He is not destructive. We are not crating him and he does fine in the house. He does needs to be taken outside often in order to avoid any accidents but he's still young. He is extremely affectionate, obedient, and he already knows some commands. He is very smart. He's a great guy.

Blue (#10494)

Blue is an 8 year old neutered black male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs and cats and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 65 lbs. Blue had his leg amputated a long time ago but we don't have any details about when and why. He has a great personality and walks well on a leash. His missing leg doesn't slow him down at all. He's a pretty mellow fellow.

Update from Blue's foster family 8/18/2010:

Blue is very well behaved and smart.  So far he comes when called, sits, lays down, stays (kinda) and will shake hands.  He has a lot of gray in his face  but he is very energetic and active and gets around no problem on three legs.

Bones (#10105) and Rocko (#10106)

Bones and Rocko are 5 year old black neutered males. They need to be adopted as a pair because they were litter mates and are very dependent on each other. Both are up to date on their shots and are heartworm negative. Good with other dogs living with two small dogs now. Bones and Rocko are approved for kids aged 8 and up. They shouldn't be adopted into a home with cats. They know their commands and walk okay on lead. They are both house and crate trained. Both love to swim and have been trained not to go in a swimming pool. Rocko is a ballaholic and will retrieve until he drops. Bones will retrieve when he feels like it but would much rather cuddle with you. They both like to lay in sun, snooze and get tummy rubs. They like outside as they were raised on a farm.

Bubba (#10405)

Bubba is a 2 1/2 year old neutered yellow male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 86 lbs. He is very friendly and sweet. Bubba is brand new to Lab Rescue. We'll tell you more about him as soon as we can.

Update from Bubba's foster family:

Bubba is always happy and wants to be with us constantly. He follows us through the house always staying within a few feet. He hasn't been jumping on the bed unless invited and likes to spend the night sleeping on the floor nearby. He stays quiet for the entire night but is elated when I get up in the morning to take him on a walk. He still needs some work on a leash, but he does drastically better with a harness. He has become a favorite with the neighborhood kids. I can't get more than 10 feet out the door most nights before hearing "Can we pet Bubba?" He is a bit of a klutz so I do have them sit down so he doesn't accidentally bump in to them, but he's been good about standing calmly while they pet him. He will be the perfect dog for the right family. He really doesn't like being in a crate.

Dixie (#10481)

Dixie is a 4 year old spayed chocolate female. She is up to date on her shots and is heartworm negative. She is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 4 and up. She weighs 58 lbs. She knows some commands and walks ok on a lead. She is a little shy when she first meets you but warmsup quickly. She is a bit more shy with men. Dixie just had surgery on her right knee for a problem where the knee cap doesn't properly glide in the femur. Her left knee will be operated on in about 6 weeks. She has a playful side that she can't act on at the moment.

Update from Dixie's foster family 8/20/2010:

Dixie is doing amazing! You would never know this dog had surgery on her knee just a few weeks ago. She can keep up with the other dogs now and LOVES to retrieve anything. She gets it and brings it back, but you have to remind her a few times to drop it when she brings it back. She's just so excited when she is retrieving that she's waiting for you to throw it while it's still in her mouth. She is definitely an active girl who likes exercise. She would be great for someone who wants to build up their pitching arm. She's got the stamina of a 6 month old, but without all the chewing:) In indoor manners are good, and she can hold her potty for a long period of time (10 hours one rainy day). She's at the bottom of our "pack" here and is fine with that. She is also good with the human child, no issues except for the excessive kissing. If you aren't paying her good enough attention she will kiss you until she wears a hole in your arm. She is still a bit timid of men, but eventually she will realize that they are nice too.

Dobson (#10380)

Dobson is a 9 year old black neutered male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 9 and up. He weighs 65 lbs. Dobson suffers from some hip and allergy issues that we're just starting to learn about. Dobson is brand new to Lab Rescue. We'll tell you more about him as soon as we can.

Update from Dobson's foster family 8/3/2010:

Dobson is the best house guest, ever.  My husband and I have become very attached.  His soft, brown eyes just draw you in and make you smile.  He is fully house trained, doesn't counter surf and wants to be with you, whenever he can.  However, when I leave for work, he follows me to the door, wags his tail and politely waits for door to close and for me to tell him that "I'll be right back!".  He has the run of the house, all day and all night.  He loves sleeping on the soft, plush, dog beds or throw rugs that we have stategically placed around the house.  He loves picking through the large copper pot that contains all of the dog toys.  His favorites are the stuffed toys and an occassional shoe.  He doesn't chew them, he just likes to carry them around the house and then outside, when he strolls the grounds.  He loves the farm smells:  horses, geese, rabbits and toads.  He and our cat have come to respect each other.  He wants to follow her around, but she would prefer to be alone.  His arthritis does limit his activity, but he will keep up with our girls, by jogging as close behind as possible.  He doesn't engage in their rough house play, but takes that opportunity to get my 100% undivided attention.  He will sit by your side, for hours on end and enjoy pets, belly rubs and kisses and he'll give kisses back, in return!!

Emmie (#10390)

Emmie is a 9 year old black spayed female. She is up to date on her shots and is heartworm negative. She is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 5 and up. She weighs 70 lbs. She is both house and crate trained. She has some arthritis but has no problem chasing a ball in the yard, swimming or taking her evening walk. She's on glucosamine supplements for her arthritis.

Update from Emmie's foster family 8/24/2010:

We took Emmie to the Yappy Hour at Foster's Grille the other night and she did well with the other dogs. She has also been around kids of all ages, even infants, and she is fine with them all. She is not a licker but loves to nuzzle and is a gentle moocher. She is a very loving, loyal dog and very obedient. Emmie does not look to play with other dogs or children, but is accepting of attention. She doesn't snore and sleeps through the night. I think she actually prefers to sleep in. She is young at heart and will surprise you with her energy AND her ability to run and run and run. She is housetrained and does not need to be crated, although, I am not sure she would be opposed to it (she sleeps under our bed often). I have not figured out what her reaction to cats is but I plan on exposing her. When Emmie is outside, she is all heart...she just wants to play. She is very pretty!

Gidget (#10550)

Gidget is a 3 month old silver female. She received some of her puppy shots and will have more to come in future months including rabies. She is good with other dogs and cats and is approved for kids aged 5 and up. Gidget was born the smallest of her litter. She has had a problem with her right front leg since she was born; her foot is turned in almost like a club foot. She's been seen by our vet who says it looks as though the bone stopped growing at the elbow but she uses her leg and has no problems getting around. Gidget is a dream dog. She goes into her crate without a whimper and sleeps through the night. Everyone who has met her just adores her.

Katie (#10423)

Katie is a 13 year old yellowd spayed female. She is up to date on her shots and is heartworm negative. She is good with other dogs and cats and is approved for kids aged 8 and and up. She is both house and crate trained. Katie has excellent house manners; she doesn't counter surf or raid the garbage and she doesn't get on the furniture. She likes to sleep next to the bed. She loves having her back rubbed by the base of her tail and also loves getting belly rubs. Katie likes squeeky toys. She loves attention and listens carefully to you. She wags her whole body with happiness. Katie knows her commands.

Update from Katie's foster family 8/22/2010:

Katie has settled in well with her family of four Labs.  She keeps up with them all, even the “young” guys who are 8 years old.  She runs up and down stairs, plays with the hose in the back yard, and generally has a good time.  She loves to go for a walk, and just strolls along, sniffing all the exciting smells as she goes.  Katie makes a wonderful watch dog, too!  She will bark at the door to announce visitors!  Katie has learned the household routine very quickly.  She knows when it is mealtime, when it’s time to go for a walk, and when it is bedtime.  At bedtime she goes upstairs and sits on her Barney blanket, waiting for her evening treat.  She is a smart girl, who still finds the world an exciting place at the age of 13.

Long John (#10537)

Long John is a 2 1/2 year old black neutered male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 66 lbs. He is very playful but calm for his age.

Update from Long John's foster family 8/29/2010:

Long John is really awesome. He stays at my side when I walk. This dog fits in here: He is extremely well mannered but also inquisitive. He will not pull hard on the leash or bark at you to get you do anything, but will be soaking in the environment, observing everything. When I walked him today he stayed at my side rather than pull me. When we got to the park and I let up the leash for more length, he still did not pull much but stayed within the allotted length. He knows how to play fetch. When I am working on the computer he lays down beside me. When I am washing dishes, he lays down beside me. Long John definitely deserves a great home. He is such as sweetheart.

Maddie (#10514)

Maddie is a 9 month old black spayed female. She is up to date on her shots and is heartworm negative. She is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. She weighs 45 lbs and needs to gain some weight. The hair has worn off under her neck where she has been tied with a chain. She is high energy, friendly and outgoing. She is very sweet. Maddie is brand new to Lab Rescue. We'll tell you more about her as soon as we can.

Update from Maddie's foster family 9/6/2010:

Maddie is doing great.  She is a very good little puppy. Still has some puppy tendencies (table/counter surfs, chews on anything she can get her mouth on if your not looking), but all you have to do is call her name or clap your hands and she stops, so she seems she is easily trained. She will go into the crate after a treat but will bark in protest.  She walks well on a leash, pulls a little but nothing out of the ordinary for her age.  She is very friendly to anyone who passes us on walks: kids, adults, other dogs.  Greets them all as if they were a long lost friend of hers.  She plays very well with my Labrador.  He and Maddie have been playing almost non-stop since I brought her home on Saturday. She is not a barker, only does so occasionally to someone passing by the fence (or one night to her reflection in the mirror).  She will make someone a very good dog!

Mason (#6322)

Mason is a 6 year old yellow neutered male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. Mason likes to run. He needs to gain some way and knows how to use the dog door. He's best in a home without cats. He knows his commands and pulls a bit when he first starts out on a leash. He is both house and crate trained but doesn't need the crate. He's very energetic and loves to run and play.

Update from Mason's foster family 8/22/2010:

Mason is a happy couch potato when he's indoors. He came from a home with a 14-month-old, and he was very gentle with him.  Great house manners, fully house trained, no marking. Poor guy, we've had to move him several times because of foster vacations.  Each time, he settles in after a bit, but he needs some help with the transition.  No cats for this guy. Mason will do better in a home with a tall fence or perhaps a tie-out; he likes to take advantage of opportunities to go exploring and can still jump. He is very sweet and will make a great companion for somebody.

He's super sweet likes to have a nice cuddle. He likes suffed toys.

Update from Maxwell's foster family 9/1/2010:

Maxwell is extremely smart and learns new things quickly. He's crate trained and even likes hanging out in there. He's got the best manners! He sits and waits for his food and sits while we put the leash on before a walk. He's got a sweet and funny personality and he's making us laugh every day. Mickey (#10532)

Mickey is a 4 year old neutered black male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 90 lbs. He is a very smart dog who will need obedience training. He's very excited when he first goes out for a walk but then settles into a nice pace and walks well. He loves it when you praise him with works and will come over to you and give you wiggles. He loves to play with a tennis ball and retrieves but won't always bring it back.

Update from Mickey's foster family 8/29/2010:

He is a good boy, He is full of energy for his age, I thought he was younger from his playfulness.  He is very well behaved.  No accidents in the house.  He has not shown any food aggression and eats well.  Loves his toys-he has a favorite football and basketball (which he can fit all in his mouth at once).  But he is a joy to have and a beautiful coat.  He needs room to run and play.

Update from Mosby's foster family 8/23/2010:

Mosby continues to do well.  He is affectionate and attentive, but not velcro. Given the chance, he's happy to lay his head on your lap and just stay there until you move - but who would want to?  Great house manners, fully house trained. When he sees other dogs, he wants to play, play, play!  He doesn't always know when to say when. Follows commands very well, even when he's running at full tilt.  He has been very gentle with the children he has met.  He would probably enjoy being in a household with another energetic dog (or two!) to play with, but he also seems content with human company, especially when they are around a lot.

Mozart (#9250)

Mozart is a 4 year old black neutered male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs and cats and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He weighs 65 lbs. Mozart is extremely well mannered and has been through obedience training. He is house and crate trained although the crate is not necessary. He has a charming personlity.

Update from Mozart's foster family 9/7/2010:

Mozart thrives on attention and loves to snuggle. He has the capacity to be athletic and agile despite his re-injured paw, gives excellent eye contact to his handler when asked, and is superb in the house. He is motivated with food, voice and physical praise, seeming quite proud when he is told he is such a GOOD boy! He is a very eager student with a sharp mind!

Mozart remains very hesitant to get inside of a vehicle, perhaps due to some long standing fear that he will be taken somewhere and abandoned again. Efforts are ongoing to encourage him to go less hesitantly into his crate in the van.

Mozart is slightly initially shy, somewhat submissive, VERY loving and lovely Labrador! He is a happy, eager-to-please dog, who is VERY easy, biddable, and consistently calm, with the exception of thunder storm events, gun fire, fireworks and raised voices.

Mozart enjoys stuffed toys and balls, sometimes becoming quite frisky, shaking and flipping his stuffies around and up into the air, and will engage in an energetic game of fetch in the yard. A good collection of stuffed toys and throw toys is optimal to prevent boredom. Very good about having his nails trimmed/dremmeled and ears cleaned and is easily handled

Overall, Mozart has NO tendency to 'get into mischief', but he does like to explore new environments and sounds. Should he begin to do anything marginally inappropriate, he is quickly corrected with an "Aacht, aacht, leave it!" from his handler and does not repeat the behavior.

Mozart settles easily in the house where he is rock-solid. He has become accustomed to resting independently or nearby his foster. He loves his Kong (often filled with almond/peanut butter or spray cheese). He sleeps quietly and contentedly through the night (7-8 hours or longer), either on or beside his foster's bed or on his own dog bed and is a wonderful companion animal!

He knows some commands and walks well on a lead. He's a little shy when he first meets you but quickly becomes your friend for life. He likes to retrieve and to play in the water. Smokey (#10413)

Smokey is a 7 month old black male. He is up to date on his shots and is heartworm negative. He is good with other dogs and is approved for kids aged 10 and up. He currently weighs 57 lbs but has some growing left to do. He is both house and crate trained. He's recovering from treatments for a skin condition so was shaved. As his fur grows back it's a bit bleached with the summer sun. Smokey is brand new to Lab Rescue. We'll tell you more about him as soon as we can.

Update from Smokey's foster family 8/23/2010:

Smokey has great house manners.  He's very mature for his age.  He's great with other dogs and loves to retrieve.  He also loves the water.  He walks well on a leash and loves toys.  When we first got him he had a skin condition but I'm happy to report that it's all cleared up.  His fur is a full and shiny black again.

Trevor (#9469)

24 month old neutered black male. Children 10 and over due to his size. He’s ok with a very dog savvy cat. He is super affectionate  – loves people, his toys and just being goofy. He is good with his foster’s other dogs and would be a great companion with the right dog, but will need proper introduction with new dogs he encounters while walking. He is housetrained, doesn’t need a crate. He would love to have a running companion – he can easily run 3-4 miles and is very well behaved on the leash while running. He needs to go to a home where he will get lots of exercise, free running time and training.

Trixie (#10240)

Trixie is a 3 1/2 year old black spayed female. She is up to date on her shots and is heartworm negative. She is good with other dogs and is learning how to walk on a leash. She is a sweet girl who's a little shy and is learning how to wag her tail.

Update from Trixie's foster family 6/7/10:

Trixie continues to make progress. She is comfortable with most household noises and activity, although loud and sudden things will still make her retreat to a safe spot like her crate for a few minutes. Her big hurdle continues to be walking out in the open on a leash. She does better in quiet parks with no traffic around than along the street. Trixie is now housetrained. She has no issues with other dogs or cats. Her main form of play is running around and playing a sort of tag. For whatever reason, she’s in love with stairs. She likes to run up and down them as part of her play.
